Micros versus Mainframes. Micros are computer systems. Mainframes are computer systems. Each offers a variety of input and output alternatives, and each is supported by a wide variety of packaged software. There are, of course, obvious differencesin size and capabilities. Everything associated with a mainframe is larger in scope: execution of programs is faster: on-line disk storage has more capacity; printer speeds are much faster; mainframes service many workstations; and they cost more. |
